Faye & Associates Baseball Update
by posted 07/06/2020

Hello everyone!

My name is Heather Dorsey (Drew's mom). I am the team manager for our team. I am looking forward to a fun (even though different) season! My role as manager is to pass along key information for the team throughout the season, help to order uniforms and any other non-coaching related issues/questions. I'll leave all baseball questions for the coaches!

Practices:

As a reminder, our practices are now Wednesdays at 7:00pm at Thorpe Park Field 1 (this is the other field at Thorpe, in the opposite corner from where we were practicing).

Uniforms:

We had to place the uniform order very quickly, so we did our best to coordinate sizes of the jerseys. The MBA provides jerseys, belts, socks and hats. It was highly recommended to have last names added to the hats so they can be found easily when tossed around the dugouts. The extra charge for personalization was $5 each. Players are asked to purchase their own gray pants. We found a pair for Drew at Dickssportinggoods.com. I believe Shane passed out uniforms last week, but if you are unable to attend practice we will have them for you on Wednesday night.

Coaches Gifts:

Traditionally we would have a team party at the end of the season and thank our coaches for a fantastic year. I'm not sure about the team party, but I know we will still want to thank our awesome coaches. If you are interested in contributing, I will purchase purchase gift cards for our coaches to present to them at the end of the year. I know the coaches are seeing this email - but they won't know where I am getting the gift cards, so they will still be surprised! :)

Coaches gifts + Hats = $12 per player

Cash, check or Venmo @David-Dorsey-5

SSU App:

I encourage you to download the SportsSignUp mobile app. The app provides the team practice and game schedule, a way to connect with other team parents, coaches can notify you about schedule changes and the ability to RSVP to practices and games. The RSVP feature is VERY helpful for coaches. They know that may of us have scheduled events that conflict with baseball and knowing how many players will be at practices and games will be helpful to set lineups and make adjustments. Be sure to use the same email addresses associated with MBA, so your team will automatically be pulled in.

Other information:

  • Volunteer requirements are currently suspended
  • No Food is permitted (including gum), this means no game day treats are allowed. Water and sports drinks only.
  • Please be familiar with the Safety Guidelines and checklist (see below) set forth by the MBA. Please be reminded that at practices, parents should remain in the parking lot. It is also being asked that parents socially distance in the parking lots to set the appropriate example for the players.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thanks!

Heather

Safety Checklist (to be done prior to and during each practice):

  • Pre-practice health chat (please ensure no family member or player is feeling ill or showing any signs of illness)
  • Pre-practice temperature check – please take your child’s temperature pre-practice
  • If any family member is feeling ill or has an elevated temperature, the player will not be allowed to attend practice
  • ·Please bring your own mandatory equipment and mark each item with tape and your player’s name so he can easily identify his own equipment. We will not share ANY equipment at this time. This includes no sharing of bats, helmets, or any equipment at all.
  • We will observe social distancing at practice – players and coaches will work to remain 6’ apart.
  • No food is allowed at practice. This includes no sunflower seeds or gum. No food or gum will be allowed at any time.
  • Please provide your player with their own PPE if your family chooses to wear them. We will not mandate masks at this time. This is subject to change.
  • Parents are not allowed in the practice areas. Per MDH guidance, you can remain in your car or in park common areas while observing social distancing guidelines.
  • No carpooling to or from practices.
  • Coaches will wear a mask and use hand sanitizer when assisting an athlete with an injury unless it is an emergency that requires quicker action.

The rules listed above are subject to change as MBA and our governing bodies see fit. These guidelines are designed to lessen risk but do not ensure a guarantee. Our suggestions are listed as a helpful aid in planning for practices so that these unusual circumstances might be a little easier and of course, fun.

MBA suggests that players pack their baseball bag with the following items to help promote social distancing:

Must bring your own (click here for examples):

Glove

Batting Gloves

Batting Helmet

Bat

Cleats

Hat

Uniform (for games including pants, socks, belt, jersey, hat)

Protective cup

Hand Sanitizer

Water bottle (More than one is suggested as water fountains are not allowed at this time)

Any other equipment necessary for played positions (i.e. First baseman’s glove, catcher’s gear).

Any required or prescribed medications

Hi Fay & Associates Parents,

We’ve had a great couple of weeks of practice! We have a great group of kids who have all been working hard getting better, even when it’s hot and steamy outside (like it was this afternoon). Please thank them for us for all of the effort they’ve put in, and the positive attitudes they’ve all had at every practice.

We now have our schedule, including games and a new practice night, for the rest of the season. Tomorrow night (Monday, 6/29) will be our last Monday night practice for the year, and we’re planning on holding a scrimmage with the Engel and Volkers team that also practices at Thorpe at 7:00 on Mondays. Per guidance from MBA, parents are welcome to stay and watch the scrimmage as long as you follow these guidelines:

Q: Can fans attend games and scrimmages?

A: Yes, after receiving new guidance, the areas behind the plate are now open for fan seating observing the 6 foot recommendations from the MDH and CDC.  The previously suggested areas down the base lines are now reserved for extended dugout areas, unless coaches determine otherwise according to the layout of the field.  Please be aware that certain fields (like Bennett 5) have less room for fans so keep that in mind when you consider who in your family will attend those games.

Q: Is there a limit of how many fans can attend a game or scrimmage?

A: There is no limit of how many fans per player at this time, but we ask that each family be considerate, courteous, and cautious of how much safe space is available for fans.

We will still have our practice scheduled for 7:00pm this Thursday (7/2), then we shift practice days to Wednesdays at 7:00pm at Thorpe Park Field 1 (this is the other field at Thorpe, in the opposite corner from where we currently practice. Starting next week, we have one practice per week on Wednesdays and 1 or 2 games each weekend through mid-August. The schedule is below:

You can also find this schedule at https://www.leagueathletics.com/Schedule.asp?org=minnetonkabaseball.org

We recognize that you may have weekend plans over the next month and a half and may not be able to make every game – not a problem but please let me know in advance if you know you won’t make a game so we can plan line-ups and pitching/catching rotations. Also, with just 11 kids on the roster we hope that we’ll only have 1 or 2 kids out of action so we don’t need to forfeit any games.

Finally, we have ordered jerseys and hope to have them before our first game. It sounds like MBA is not providing baseball pants as part of our uniform this year, so you will need to purchase a pair (or two) from a sporting goods store. I’d love our team to have the same color pants (ideally white or gray) but feel free to buy what makes the most sense for your player.

Thanks!

Shane
