Minnetonka Baseball Association is a program of service to the youth of our community. It is geared to provide an outlet of healthful activity and training under good leadership in an atmosphere of wholesome community participation.
Happy (rainy) monday morning. First week of baseball games this week! A few updates (lengthy post this week):
Schedule for this week:
Monday 7/6 (tonight) practice at Thorpe 2
Tuesday 7/7 GAME vs. Minneapolis Millers Orange - 6:00 pm (arrive by 5:40 pm) @ 6247 Bloomington Rd, St. Paul, MN 55111 Field 3
Thursday 7/9 GAME vs. Minneapolis Millers Orange - 6:00 pm (arrive by 5:40 pm) @ 6000 Eureka Rd. Excelsior, MN 55331 Freeman Field 1
Friday 7/10 GAME vs. Minnetonka 10AA Blue - 6:00 pm (arrive by 5:40 pm) @ 6000 Eureka Rd. Excelsior, MN 55331 Freeman Field 1
Please notice arrival times for the games listed above as only 20 minutes before game time. A couple of reasons for this: 1) it will be HOT! 2) we're not able to take batting practice before the games. Since the window is pretty tight between arrival and game start, please make sure to make arrangements to be on field on time.
About the whole "it's gonna be hot" thing, please make sure your player (and you) has plenty of water since they won't be able to share.
We'll have copies of a written waiver at practice tonight that all families must fill out in order for your player to participate in MBL baseball games. This waiver is in addition to the electronic online waiver that you signed earlier in the season. Coaches are required to keep hard copies of these waivers on hand for every game. If you are not at practice this evening, we'll also have copies at the game tomorrow.
This is info directly from MBL (the league that MBA is a part of). Important info that we are passing along:
With the MBL season just days away I thought it would be good to send you out a reminder about the safety precautions that will be implemented for this season. Also please review the 2 attachments and add any additional safety rules that your community might have. Make sure you make the opposing teams aware if you have any different rules and guidelines that are not listed.
In the last attachment is a list of the new rules for the 2020 season. Make sure you and your team are aware of these changes.
NO Spectators behind the backstop. Spectators can watch from 1st and 3rd base down the lines and beyond the outfield fence maintaining a 6 ft. distance from one another.
Baseballs will be the responsibility of the defensive team. Baseballs should be wiped down with a damp cloth with sanitizing solution (4 Tablespoons of chlorine bleach to 1 quart of water per CDC guidelines) after each half inning and anytime the ball goes out of play and a different ball needs to be brought into the game. Umpires will not hold any baseballs.
No more than 4 people in the dugout at any time. The area behind the backstop and dugouts will serve as the extra dugout area for players and coaches.
No sunflower seeds or gum will be allowed anywhere in the park
No spitting will be allowed.
Umpires will umpire from behind the pitcher?s mound. Please make sure that your lines are marked all of the way to the outfield fence to assist umpire in calling fair or foul.
No post game handshake. Each team should line-up on their respective base line and give a tip of the hat to their opponents in place of the handshake.
Whenever possible, equipment and personal items should have proper sanitation and should not be shared. If equipment must be shared, proper sanitation should be administered between users.
6.29 weekly update
Happy (rainy) Monday afternoon! Just a couple of things from Team Nevermann this week:
As of right now, we are still having practice tonight. Obviously if that changes, you will be alerted automatically via the MBA site, and I'll also send a quick note out to everyone to relay any info.
We WILL also have practice on Wednesday this week, but not Friday (Happy 4th!). We will play sandlot scrimmage on Wednesday (at Thorpe 2), so those of you will be here please have your child bring both jersey's that night. Please let the coaching staff know if you will be out of town by marking your attendance in the SSU app.
It's going to be VERY hot this week, so please make sure to have plenty of water for your child as the fountains at Bennett are turned off, and there are none at Thorpe.
July practices were loaded into the MBA calendar over the weekend. Looks like we will be practicing on Monday evenings at Thorpe.
If you can, please include some kind of folding chair with your child's baseball gear, that would be great. To meet the MBA mandated guidelines for safety we need to create seating for each player with 6 feet of distance between them and the next closest player, therefore we need to create seating outside of the dugout.
Here is a link to the MBL 10U rules that we will be using this year - https://www.mbl.bz/pages/rules-10-mbl. Probably the biggest change from prior years is the ability the steal home (hence the reason we added that in to the Friday scrimmage).
