Minnetonka Baseball Association is a program of service to the youth of our community. It is geared to provide an outlet of healthful activity and training under good leadership in an atmosphere of wholesome community participation.

Attention all 9-11 Y/O Travel League Coaching Candidates:

You are receiving this message because you are the parent of a prospective 9, 10 or 11 year old travel player in the Minnetonka Baseball Association.  This determination is based upon your player’s registration age and because you have registered them to tryout for the league. If you are interested in being considered and potentially interviewed for a coaching role, please complete the  Coaching Application by Friday Feb. 14th.

A brief note on the coach selection and team formation process.  Our league obviously cannot exist without great coaches. The quality of our coaching has the single largest impact on the quality of the player’s baseball experience.  For this reason, the board is actively involved in the selection process and it starts fresh prior to each season.  Key elements in the process are highlighted below:

  1. The board's coaching committee reviews all head coaching applicant submissions and interviews candidates for our travel leagues prior to the March board meeting.  The full board then reviews all coaching candidates and approves the potential pool of coaches (based upon the committee’s recommendation from a review of the application, the interview, prior experience and feedback from past coaching years where applicable).  From this pool, the coaching committee will select its head coaches for the 2021 season.
  2. Head coaches, however, cannot be selected until after tryouts have been completed in March.  The player’s performance in assessments determines which parent coaches are then eligible to coach at a particular level (A, AA, AAA).  The committee selects AAA head coaches first from the initial pool of players as determined by their tryout performance (top tier) and pairs them with an assistant coach also within that pool.  Selected head coaches for the AAA level will be called the Sunday evening following tryouts (so please be accessible via phone that evening) and the team formation draft will be held the following evening at MHS at a location TBD.
  3. Once the AAA coaches have been selected and the team formation process completed, the next level coaches will be selected for AA (again, their players’ performance must place them within the next tier to be considered).  AA coaches should expect a phone call on the evening of the AAA team formation event (so please be accessible via phone that evening) with their team formation meeting being Tuesday.  Lastly, the A coaches and teams will be formed based upon the remaining player pool following this same approach.  Players not selected for a travel team will automatically be enrolled in the community league program (9 or 10/11).

Note: The number of teams at each level will be determined based upon evaluation performance and tiering.  The league may change the number of teams in total or at a level from previous years based upon the assessment results.  In addition, coaching candidates must get their information completed and submitted by Friday 2/14 to be considered (via the link).  Coaches are only selected after tryouts and it is important that we have all the information in hand to conduct our assessments and interviews expeditiously.  No exceptions will be made. While many of you have a significant track record as a coach within the league this does not guarantee your selection. An application an online form must be completed to be considered.

Again, thank you for your interest in coaching.   Decisions will not be made until tryouts are complete.  Please feel free to contact Chad Johnson, Charlie Steingas, Dave Mauer, Kyle Heitkamp or Marty Kusar if you have any questions.
