"For The Love Of The Game"
Two very important things in the life of Tucker Masui were his family and baseball. He was quiet by nature, yet passionate and outspoken on all things baseball. Tucker’s passion for baseball began at a young age, playing Little League in Monterey Park CA through his freshman year at Cal State Long Beach. This passion was rekindled when his two sons Ryan and Ian also grew to love the game. Tucker coached for the Minnetonka Baseball Association for at least 15 years. He was often found in the dugout or sitting on his bucket of balls sending in signals to the pitcher and encouraging all players. Even through his diagnosis and treatments, Tucker found strength and much enjoyment through baseball.
Tucker Masui passed away March 23, 2017 from abdominal cancer. Prior to his passing, he made it very clear that he wanted baseball to be a part of his legacy. To that end, Tucker and his wife Alex created a scholarship in his honor to support Minnetonka players who shared his passion for the game, but may be prohibited from playing because of associated costs. Tucker knew the value of a baseball season for each player. He valued the entire experience of baseball including growth and development, maturity and chemistry in players, coaches and team. He also knew that there are many associated costs. Tucker was quite clear that he wanted to continue to share and foster baseball passion in our Minnetonka players. He clearly stated "I don't want my money going to field maintenance or repair, I want it to support a player."
With this in mind, Minnetonka Baseball Association is proud to name our scholarship program in memory of this great man and wonderful family.
Thank you to the Masui Family for all you continue to do for our baseball community!
