MBA COMMUNITY TEAM TOURNAMENT RULES

Community 8

IF A RULE IS NOT ADDRESSED WITHIN THESE “COMMUNITY TOURNAMENT RULES,” ALL REGULAR SEASON RULES ARE ASSUMED TO BE IN EFFECT

Tournament Format: The teams are seeded in the Bracket based on their regular season record. The goal is to guarantee each team a minimum of two games, but this will not always be the case. This is not double elimination; it’s a tournament that guarantees two games. Teams that win their first game or win based on the tiebreaker rules, continue to advance within their bracket. From that point on, all future games played are “win you advance, lose you go home” (an exception being the semi-final games).

Bracket Placement: The seedings are determined by

  1. Regular Season Record (system calculated win percentage)
  2. Regular Season Run Differential (Runs Scored minus Runs Allowed) – all games.

Game Length: Regular season rules regarding time limits for game play will be utilized with the exception of the Championship, 3rd place and Consolation Championship games; there will be no time limit on those three specific games. If weather shortens the game, the League Director and / or Tournament Director shall convene with the coaches to make a decision, but first of which will be the score after each full inning of play, depending on when the game was interrupted.

In the Championship, 3rd place & Consolation Championship games the unlimited run inning will be the sixth inning, regardless of time.

Game Rules: No deviation unless determined by the League and/or Tournament Director.

Eligibility: This is an MBA in-house tournament, so all players assigned to your roster are eligible to take part in the tournament. Replacement players may not be used in the MBA In-House Tournament.  Teams must field players from their regular season rosters. Any violation of this rule may result in forfeiting their game.

Batting Order: Teams will bat in a continuous batting order. The batting order can be reset from the regular season prior to the first tournament game only. The “new” batting order must be followed throughout the remaining tournament games (i.e. the on deck batter for the last out of any particular game will be the lead off batter the next game). Any violation of this rule may result in forfeiting their game.

Player Fielding Rotation: Regular season rules dictate player rotations in the field. Players must be rotated to different positions after each inning. A player cannot play a single position in two consecutive innings and every player must at least have 2 innings in the infield in an official game. Coaches should make every attempt to allow each player to play each position throughout the tournament. A player must not be scheduled to play more time in the outfield/bench than the infield for a six inning game. For a 12-person team, the scheduled playing time for each player should be exactly 3 innings in the outfield/bench and 3 innings in the infield. For teams with fewer players, some players may play more infield than outfield/bench as long as no player is in the infield more than 1 inning longer than any teammate.

Home Team Designation: The higher seed (i.e. 1 being the highest seed) will be the home team and they will occupy the third base dugout and be responsible for the scoreboard.

Scoring: Scores will be kept and there will be winners and losers for each game played. There will be a 5 run max per inning for all innings of the tournament except for the “last inning” as called by the umpire or the sixth inning; whereas those innings are unlimited run innings.  As such, each team shall identify an official scorebook keeper for their respective team. It is recommended that coaches/scorekeepers compare their scorecard after each half inning to confirm accuracy.  At the completion of each game the coach / score keeper must enter the score on the MBA web-site to ensure brackets are updated timely for subsequent games.

Tie Score: In the event of a tie score after complete game requirements have been met (time limit, or 6 innings, or weather or darkness), the game will be declared a tie with the higher seeded team moving to the next round of tournament play. If a game has a tie score and completed 6 innings before the time rule limit then the game will be allowed to continue to a new inning to try and break the tie.

The exception to this rule will be the Championship Game, 3rd place Game and Consolation Championship Game. In the event of a tie, games will be allowed to continue play until the next completed inning (both Visitor and Home team batting) in which one team finishes with the lead. In the event of a tie after the six innings of play, each subsequent inning of play will be “unlimited runs” until a winner is decided.

This is a single elimination tournament and there is no consolation bracket. Teams that win their first game or win based on the tiebreaker rules, continue to advance within the bracket. All future games played are “win you advance, lose you go home” (an exception being the semi-final games).

Bracket Placement: The seedings are determined by

  1. Regular Season Record (system calculated win percentage)
  2. Regular Season Run Differential (Runs Scored minus Runs Allowed) – all games.

Game Length: Regular season rules regarding time limits for game play will be utilized with the exception of the Championship and 3rd place games; there will be no time limit on those two specific games. If weather shortens the game, the League Director and/or Tournament Director shall convene with the coaches to make a decision, but first of which will be the score after each full inning of play, depending on when the game was interrupted.

In the Championship and 3rd place games, the unlimited run inning will be the sixth inning, regardless of time.

Players (with the only possible exception of the pitcher and catcher) rotate to different positions after each inning and given approximately equal time in the infield, outfield and bench. No player will be on the bench twice before all players have been on the bench. Each Player will play infield at least twice in the first 5 innings. No player may play the same position more than 3 innings in a game (including Pitcher).

Home Team Designation: The higher seed (i.e. 1 being the highest seed) will be the home team and they will occupy the third base dugout and be responsible for the scoreboard.

Pitch Counts: Each player has a total of 75 pitches for the entire tournament. It is up to the coaches discretion on how they would like to utilize this total pitch count. It can be used in one day or over the course of the entire tournament. All teams will record their pitchers’ pitch counts throughout the game and make them available upon request.  After the game completion, each team will report their pitch counts to the League Director and Tournament Director. A Pitcher who delivers 41 or more pitches cannot play catcher for the remainder of that day.

Scoring: Scores will be kept similar to the regular season. There will be a 5 run max per inning for all innings of the tournament except for the “last inning” as called by the umpire or the sixth inning; whereas those innings are unlimited run innings.  At the completion of each game the coach / score keeper must report the game results to the League Director and Tournament Director to ensure brackets are updated timely for subsequent games.

The exception to this rule will be the Championship Game and 3rd place Game. Games will be allowed to continue play until the next completed inning (both Visitor and Home team batting) in which one team finishes with the lead. In the event of a tie after the six innings of play, each subsequent inning of play will be “unlimited runs” until a winner is decided.

IF A  RULE IS NOT ADDRESSED WITHIN THESE “COMMUNITY TOURNAMENT RULES,” ALL REGULAR SEASON RULES ARE ASSUMED TO BE IN EFFECT

Tournament Format: The teams are seeded into the bracket based upon their regular season record. Teams should reference the bracket for timing of potential games.

  1. Regular Season Record (system calculated win percentage)
  2. Regular Season Run Differential (Runs Scored minus Runs Allowed) – all games.

Game Rules: No deviation unless determined by the League and/or Tournament Director.

Eligibility: This is an MBA in-house tournament, so all players assigned to your roster are eligible to take part in the tournament. All replacement players must be pre-approved by the MBA tournament director.  Any violation of this rule may result in forfeiting their game.

Batting Order: Teams will bat in a continuous batting order. The batting order can be reset from the regular season prior to the first tournament game only. The “new” batting order must be followed throughout the remaining tournament games (i.e. the on deck batter for the last out of any particular game will be the lead-off batter the next game). Pitch Counts: Players will be allowed to throw a maximum of 80 pitches per day and a total of 130 pitches for the tournament.

Scoring: Scores will be kept similar to the regular season. There will be a 5 run max per inning for all innings of the tournament except for the “last inning” as called by the umpire or the sixth inning; whereas those innings are unlimited run innings.  At the completion of each game the coach / score keeper must report game results to the league and tournament director to ensure brackets are updated timely for subsequent games.

Tie Score: In the event of a tie score after complete game requirements have been met (time limit, or 6 innings, or weather or darkness), the higher seeded team will advance as the winner.  The score should be reported to reflect a winner, not a tie to allow the app to function correctly.

The exception to this rule will be the Championship Game, 3rd place Game and Consolation Championship Game. In the event of a tie after the six innings of play for the semi-finals, each subsequent inning of play will be “unlimited runs” until a winner is decided. Then the tie breaker will revert to the lowest defensive runs allowed average per innings of defense played. In the Championship, 3rd Place and Consolation Championship games, the 6th inning and each subsequent inning will be played as “unlimited runs” until a winner is decided.
