Minnetonka Baseball Association is a volunteer organization. Our goal is to provide a great baseball experience for players at every ability and experience level. From Pre-K through 12th Grade there are numerous divisions of Minnetonka Baseball, each designed with the intent of building and growing a players’ skills each season. Across all leagues, MBA emphasizes safety, teamwork, sportsmanship and, perhaps most importantly, having fun. Each league is led by a League Coordinator, a position that reports to the MBA Director of Leagues. Below are brief summaries of each league:
Options for Baseball Ages 4 – 12 (Minnetonka Baseball)
Teams in “Rookie” through “Community 8” will continue to be formed primarily based on the elementary school in which the player attends.
Introduction to the game using soft baseballs; hitting occurs via coach pitch and/or from a hitting tee (parent/player selected); all players bat through each inning and play multiple positions; neither score nor standings are kept.
Continued development/introduction of baseball fundamentals; soft baseballs are used; coaches pitch to their own teams; players play multiple positions; neither score nor standings are kept.
Soft baseballs used; players play multiple positions; “sling” pitching machines will be utilized for hitting; score is kept and wins and losses are recorded for league standings; in-house, post-season in-house tournament for all teams.
Soft baseballs are used; players play multiple positions; 10 players on the field; “sling” pitching machines will be utilized for hitting; continuous batting order throughout the season; score is kept and wins and losses are recorded for league standings; in-house, post-season in-house tournament for all teams.
Hard baseballs are introduced; 1st year of “Kid-Pitch” baseball and all players are given an opportunity to pitch; players play multiple positions; 10 players on the field; continuous batting order throughout the regular season; stealing is introduced; in-house, post-season in-house tournament for all teams.
First year where players are separated by talent level, with tryouts required for consideration for play in the Travel. Competitive play accelerates but 10/11 remains developmental with roughly equal playing time and all players being given the opportunity to play multiple positions in the infield and outfield. Number of teams created is determined by the number of overall registrations for this age group.
Players with higher talent level distinguished via a tryout in the Spring. Tryouts are required to be considered for the Travel League. Competitive play accelerates with age but our developmental with roughly equal playing time and all players being given the opportunity to play multiple positions in the infield and outfield. Teams are formed and players stay within that team for the remainder of the season.Teams play a 16-game regular season in the Metro Baseball League against Travel teams from other communities. Teams play in 3 to 4 regular season tournaments and possibly 2 postseason tournaments. Number of teams created is determined by the number of overall registrations for this age group.

Teams are formed by an equidraft. Teams play an 18-game regular season against in-house and interleague opponents and an end-of-season in-house playoff. Teams play on modified (75-80 ft bases) fields.

Community 16-18 year olds (10th thru 13th Grade Program)- Baseball Age 16, 17 & 18 and are Attending 10th thru 13th Grade during the 2025-2026 school year or BB Age 15 or 19 and are Attending 10th or 12th Grade during the 2025-2026 school year
Team rosters may be created entirely by friend requests. Players do not need to be on a preset roster and will still be placed on a team either way. Teams play a 16 game regular season against in-house and interleague opponents. There will be an end-of-season playoff tournament against teams from the league which will conclude by the end of June.
12 Year Olds- Teams selected from Fall tryout. Teams play a 16 game regular season in the Metro Baseball League against Travel teams from other communities. Teams play in 3 - 4 regular season tournaments and 2-3 postseason tournaments Teams play on modified (75-80 feet) fields.
13 Year Olds - Teams selected from Fall tryout. Teams play a 16-game regular season in the Metro Baseball League against Travel teams from other communities. Teams play in 3 - 4 regular season tournaments and 2 postseason tournaments. Teams play on modified (75-80 feet) fields.

15 Year Olds - Players are eligible to tryout for the Excelsior Junior Legion Program OR MBA Travel ONLY. Players not selected for Excelsior Junior Legion or those that prefer to play in MBA will have the following format. MBA Travel teams play a 14-game regular season in the Metro Baseball League against Travel teams from other communities. Teams play in 3 -4 regular season tournaments and 2 postseason tournaments. Teams play on regulation (90 feet) fields. Format is subject to change as MBL may modify from season to season.

Teams play a 14-game regular season in the Metro Baseball League against Travel teams from other communities. Teams play in 3 -4 regular season tournaments and 2 postseason tournaments. Excelsior Legion- Excelsior Legion is an MBA partner and is considered the highest level of competitive baseball offered in our community. Minnetonka 15U players register for tryouts through the MBA website and will complete a joint evaluation between MBA and the Excelsior Legion. The Excelsior Legion staff will determine the total number of teams, players per team, game, tournament, and practice schedule. Pricing, format, coaching staff will be determined independent from MBA. Please refer to the Excelsior Legion website for more information. Players that tryout for Legion, but are NOT selected will automatically be placed on an MBA AAA, AA, or 14/15 A team based on the evaluation and previous season coach input.
